I'm wanting to sell my U2 CD Singles collection. And I have pretty much all of them:

I have personally bought new every official U2 or U2 related (ie Passengers, Mission Impossible, Batman) commercial release CD single (including DVD singles) since Achtung Baby. These are mostly NZL and UK releases, with some AUS, US and Canadian Issues as well. Also, second hand, I have bought the Unforgettable Fire 'ep' Cd Single, All Joshua Tree Singles (not OTH, as it wasn't released on CD), all Rattle and Hum Singles, and the odd pre-release/promo singles as well.

As far as I know, the only official releases I don't own are

U2 R.O.K. (664972)
New Year's Day (664973)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (664971)
Pride (664975)

I have a full list, including all 'serial numbers' etc which I can post at a later date.

SO... here's my thoughts.

I would probably want to sell the lot as one package. I figure it's worth more as a collection(?), and it's a bit painful to do things any other way. I might likely throw in some extras too; the odd tour souvineer? - perhaps some of my old music magazines which have U2 covers/stories of note... I have a dozen or so and they date back to the early 90's. The Numb 'numbered' VHS single (though it's not rare by any means), perhaps some other U2 bits and pieces.

Any advice on selling? What do you think it's worth? How you think I should go about it: Privately-Online/Zootopia/Forums/Auction Sites (US/UK eBay), shipped from NZ?! Whether any of you might be interested? I'm not planning to do this for a while, unless I get lots of interest and figure I can get things sorted on my behalf in NZ while I'm here in UK. Just, well, fishing right now.

I figure it's a fairly significant collection. No?

Oh, and I'm not 'ripping and selling' either - all digital copies would be deleted (thought I might offer a DVD iTunes Archive to the prospective buyer to save them ripping them all). I'm not into bootlegging official mercandise!

Who knows, I might get myself a nice second hand Telecaster after all.

Discuss.
:yikes:

I think you're right to sell as a job lot - individually none of the standard release CD singles are worth a great deal.

What I'd suggest is work out what price you want and advertise for said price, then you can negotiate. But saying to people 'make me an offer' is confusing both to the buyer and seller. If you know you want to sell it, you'll know what price you'll be happy with. Put it out there.

Selling through eBay will work but to get the best exposure (and best price) you'll need to plug it on the big u2 sites like zootopia and interference, which isn't always popular but is the only way to get the exposure.

And why don't you rip and sell? I would  :crying:

I have a similar collection to yours from the sound of it, but also including most of the 7" releases as well and was offered $2500 (Aussie) for it all back in 1998 at uni. Didn't take it, worth more to me than that, but perhaps one day I'll sell it. Sold a few duplicate but pricey items to pay for the Rickenbacker 330/12 I just bought - so I guess we have the same motives...!

Good luck.

I think I'm just getting beyond listening to all the extras. Part of me likes the ideal of 'what the band thinks is the best, and therefore puts on the album' is all I want?
Maybe.

It's a balance of whether they hold value to me sitting on a shelf and occasionally finding their way onto a stereo, or whether a guitar or something might have more use...

I need to go through the list and atu2's collecters list and see what it all might be worth. I'm not expecting anywhere near $2500 Briscoeteq1 Thanks for the info though!

Yeah I would say try the whole collection in 1 hit, with eBay or on multiple fansites, I would try that first with a price that you're happy to sell for on eBay as a starting price or put a price on it and see if you can get it or close to.
You could then look at breaking it up but then you would only sell the rarer items and promos while you would be left with cd singles that you would be lucky to get what you paid for them.

Good luck Kent but it sounds like I would only be interested in any promos you may have if you look at splitting it up later on.

I see...thanks Kent.   Good luck if you decide to sell.  Promoting eBay at Interference and U2.com sounds like a wise idea as someone already mentioned.

Unless you can find someone wanting to start a collection you'll find it hard to shift this lot in one hit for
any reasonable amount of return. Selling individually, while a pain in the arse for you, will net you greater
return and a better chance of selling all the items. In any case, why don't you list here every single item
you intend to sell. You might be surprised how many you shift as single items.

Here's my list.... just so we're reading off the same lyric sheet, so to speak...
I have an idea (thanks to AtU2.com) what it might be worth adding up individual items, but market value as one entity? who knows?!

I guess being in no hurry helps too, as it can only get better, long term.
