In a subscriber article on U2.com on 2011 music Bono is still talking of 3 albums and Songs of Ascent:

"We’re working on three albums at the moment and we haven’t decided what order we’re going to put them out but ‘The Songs of Ascent’ have the kind of beautiful intimacy that we’re speaking of now. They fit into this moment, the mode of some of these artists that I was hanging out with on Christmas Eve".

Does not sound like they have decided what they are doing yet....

It's that busking Bono did at Christmas with the likes of Glen Hansard of "The Frames" and "The Swell Season , Declan O`Rourke ,Damien Dempsey, and Liam O'Maonlia of "the Hothouse Flowers" I would have liked to be there the atmosphere must have been amazing! If the intimacy of these artists music get reflected in the next work that U2 does then I for one would be happy.

We can only hope. I doubt they'll be that adventurous though.

Unfortunately since the perceived "backlash" they got with Pop I don't think we'll see them do anything like this.

It'll be another year and then we'll get the standard hype build up and the eventual good but probably not great next album...
